Secretary attends SLLI anniversary War Hero commemorative ceremony

A ceremony to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) Regiment and commemorative ceremony for its  fallen War Heroes were held at the SLLI Regimental Headquarters, Panagoda today (25th October).

Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, General (Retd) SHS Kottegoda WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc attended the event as the Chief Guest.

The Secretary was received by Colonel of the Regiment Major General LM Mudalige up on his arrival at the Regimental Headquarters.

The Secretary was accorded a Drive Past by the Officers and Other Ranks of the Regiment.

Speaking at the occasion, the Secretary said it is an honour being invited for the occasion of commemorating the fallen War Heroes on the 30th anniversary celebrations of one of the oldest Regiments of the Sri Lanka Army. He was appreciative of commemorating the sacrifices of the War Heroes.

He also expressed pleasure to visit his former regiment and reminisinced on his days in the regiment during his illustrious career in military.

He reminded the family members of the War Heroes who were present at the occasion of the sacrifices that their late loved ones have made and said that all should remember to maintain the dignity and honour of the War Heroes.

A total of 168 officers and 3700 other rankers have sacrificed their life for the mother land.

Later he visited the War Hero monument there and made floral tribute recalling the selfless sacrifices of all fallen War Heroes. A large no of relatives of the fallen War Heroes were  present at the occasion.

The Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment was established on 23 October 1989 at the headquarters of the 1st Infantry Battalion at Panagoda.

Commander of the Army, former commanders, senior army officers and a large number of other rank personnel were also present at the occasion.
