Police takes initiative to plant trees along Kaluganga
October 30, 2019An environment protection initiative to plant Kumbuk trees (Terminalia arjuna) along the banks of the Kaluganga (River) was carriedout by the Sri Lanka Police together with the National Water Supply and Drainage Board, ReForest and a group of undergrad students of the University of Kelaniya, recently.
According to Police media, the programme had been carried out with the objective of preventing erosion on the banks of the Kaluganga and turning the area near the Kandana Water Treatment Plant into a catchment area.
About 200 valuable Kumbuk plants were planted along a one kilometer stretch of the river in the vicinity of the Kandana Water Treatment Plant.
