Stranded civilians evacuated to safety
October 30, 2019With the rains continuing to lash out over the island, several areas in the country have experienced localized flooding and landslides. People from all walks of life are experiencing difficulties in getting about their day to day lives with the weather showing little sign of improvement.
Tri Forces troops have already got on ground providing relief to the people affected by the freak natural condition. According to Army media, Army troops provided assistance to evacuate civilians who had been left stranded in the flood-affected Lahugala area in Ampara on Tuesday evening (29).
Torrential downpours have flooded many areas in the the region and as a result vehicular movement had been affected. Army had utilized one of its Unibuffel troop carriers to ferry the people to safety.
The Navy had also deployed its relief teams and craft to provide assistance to flood affected communities.
