Assumption of duties by the New State Minister of Defence
November 29, 2019The newly appointed State Minister of Defence Hon. Chamal Rajapaksa MP assumed duties during a ceremony held at the Ministry, today (29 November 2019).
Upon arriving at the Ministry the honorable Minister was received by the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Major General (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc MPhil, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), tri-forces commanders, Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Director General of Civil Defence Force and senior Ministry officials.
In keeping with tradition Hon. Minister Rajapaksa officially took over duties at his office whilst chanting of ‘Seth Pirith’ by members of the Maha Sangha.
State Minister of Irrigation and Rural Development Hon. Mahinda Yapa Abeywardene, Heads of institutions under the purview of the MoD, Officials and staff of the Ministry were also present at the occasion.
Hon. Chamal Rajapaksa is the Minister of Mahaweli, Agriculture, Irrigation and Rural Development, and also the Minister of Internal Trade, Food Security and Consumer Welfare.
