November 30, 2019The arrival of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to India as his first overseas destination after assuming office marks a new approach to the historical relations between the two countries, Indian President Ram Nath Kovind said.
President Kovind made these comments at a banquet hosted by him in honour of the visiting Sri Lankan President at Rashtrapati Bhawan yesterday (29).
The centuries-old relationship between India and Sri Lanka will be a boost to the forward march of the South Asian region, the Indian President added.
“We are confident that you will succeed in achieving your vision of peace, progress and prosperity for your country,” President Kovind said.
Expressing his views President Rajapaksa said that he will endeavor to further enhance trade, economic and social relations between the two countries while cementing historical relations.
The two leaders discussed the necessity of uplifting the living standards of the people in both India and Sri Lanka.
The event was attended by Indian Ministers as well as Sri Lankan delegates.
President Rajapaksa is scheduled to meet the officials at the Sri Lankan High Commission and National General Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party Ram Madhav today.
