Military camps in the N/E will not be removed - Defence Secretary
November 30, 2019Military camps in the North and East will not be removed to compromise the national security, Defence Ministry Secretary Major General (Rtd) Kamal Gunaratne WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc MPhil, said.
‘’The government is of the view, that the military camps should be placed in required areas to maintain national security. Therefore, we will not undermine national security at any cost, and will not remove the military camps to fulfill anyone’s requests. A military camp will not hurt or affect anyone’’ Secretary Major General Gunaratne said addressing the media after paying homage to the Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Tooth), on 30 November 2019.
He said that the military helped the civilians in northern area in numerous ways and the Government was ready to assist the children in war-affected areas without any discrimination.
“We treat everyone the same, regardless of their religion, community or age. We are prepared to serve everyone equally’’ he said.
