No intention to run a military led administration in the country- Defence Secretary
November 23, 2019‘’No intention of carrying out a military administration in the country’’ Defence Secretary Major General (Rtd) Kamal Gunaratne WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc MPhil said.
Addressing the media after paying homage to Chief Incumbent of Mihintale Rajamaha Vihare Ven. Walawahengunawewe Dhammarathana Thera, he said the task of maintaining peace in the country would be handled by the Police.
“The Special Task Force of the Police will be called in any tense situations and only in uncontrollable situations military will be called in,” he stressed.
He also said that steps would be taken to ensure justice for all war heroes who have been unfairly imprisoned.
‘’We have instructed the Police through acting IGP, not to allow any political violence to take place anywhere in the country. Police have been instructed to arrest the offenders regardless of political affiliations, race or religion, if such incidents happen and bring them In front of the law’’ Defence Secretary Major General Gunaratne said.
He said that the H.E the President would fulfill justice for the families of those who died in the Easter Sunday attacks.
