Secretary attends Civilian Bravery Awards Ceremony- 2019

The 25th National Civilian Bravery Awards Ceremony - 2019 was held at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall in Colombo, today (25 July, 2019). The Secretary to the Ministry of Defence General SHS Kottegoda (Rtd) WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc attended the event organized by the Foundation for Civilian Bravery Sri Lanka, this evening.

The awards ceremony was graced by Speaker Hon. Karu Jayasuriya. A number of civilians were presented with awards in recognition of their acts of bravery in the face of danger. A highlight of the ceremony was the award presented to the widow of retired Thai navy diver, Saman Gunan who lost his life while taking part in efforts to rescue a group of boys trapped in the flooded Tham Luang cave in Thailand in June, last year (2018).

Established in 1993 the Foundation for Civilian Bravery Sri Lanka was incorporated by Act of Parliament Act No 4 of 2009. The Foundation is dedicated in recognizing and rewarding civilians who save the lives of others, risking their own and also promote safety.

Opposition Leader Hon. Mahinda Rajapaksha, President of the Foundation Mr. Kasun Chandraratna, distinguished invitees, tri forces, police and Civil Security Department Officers and a large number of guests were also present at the ceremony.
