Govt to revamp defence media units

- Ensures tight security during festive season
The government is to revamp media units under the Defence Ministry to disseminate military related news more effectively.
"There is no decision to abolish the Police media unit. But we will have a common media unit for the tri- Forces and the Police" State Defence Minister Chamal Rajapaksa said.
Answering some of the queries from media he also said a special investigation had been commenced to probe into the alleged VIP assassination plot.
Minister Rajapaksa and Defence Secretary Maj Gen (Rtd) Kamal Gunaratne attended a ceremony to distribute 187 motor bikes worth of 75 million USD donated by China to island wide police stations, today.
Maj Gen Gunaratne said measures were taken to ensure island wide security during the festive season.
"The government is responsible for maintaining security and safety of the people. Police and the armed forces are kept on high alert and no one can put country’s safety in jeopardy", he said.
