Jaffna troops celebrate Christmas with needy children

One hundred bicycles were donated to deserving children in the Jaffna region during an Army initiated programme held in view of the Christmas celebration, recently (24).

According to Army media, these bicycles were presented to students in the region with the sponsorship of a private firm.

In addition, coconut seedlings were also distributed among needy families during the programme held at the Security Force Headquarters in Jaffna.

Bishop of Jaffna Rev. Dr. Justin B Gnanapragasam, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna Maj. Gen Ruwan Wanigasooriya and a large number of military officer and local people were present at the occasion.

Meanwhile troops in Wanni had also organized Christmas Carols at St Joseph's Church in Medawachchiya on Sunday (22). Choirs were performed by Sunday school students of St Joseph's church and their parents.  Troops also presented gifts to the children attending the carols.

A group of selected Catholic priests and sisters diagnosed with vision ailments were presented with spectacles during the occasion.
