Defence Secretary directs to expedite ‘Sandahiru Seya’ constructions

Defence Secretary Maj.Gen. (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne has directed Security Forces officers, who have been assigned to construct the country’s fourth largest pagoda -the Sandahiru Seya - to expedite the balance work.

At the meeting convened to discuss the progress of constructing Sandahiru Seya held at the Ministry today (16) he instructed all stakeholders to extend their fullest support to meet the deadline projected in completion process.

The methods of erecting square chamber, assembly of sacred rings over the square chamber, retention of sacred jewel on the pointing tip of the sacred rings, proposed inscriptions and engravings, sculpture and art work were discussed in length during the session.

Sandahiru Seya construction was initiated under the directives of the former President Mahinda Rajapaksa in appreciation of the noble service rendered by the Security Forces and Police personnel to eliminate the three decade long ruthless terrorism from the country.

Once completed, this will be the fourth largest pagoda in Sri Lanka. The mega construction, which has undertaken by the Tri-Forces and the Civil Defence Force, is 285 and 255 feet in height and width respectively.

Senior Lecturer Prof. Ranjith Liyanage, Senior Tri-Forces officers, projects officers, architects and artists were present at the meeting.
