Troops complete purifying flood water contaminated wells in Kilinochchi and Mullaittivu

Sri Lanka Army troops involved in post floods relief work have completed cleaning flood affected wells in Kilinochchi and Mullaittivu by Sunday (06 January). According to Army media, troops have cleaned a total of 324 wells in Kilinochchi and 46 wells in Mullaithivu districts.

Work was carried out by the troops of the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) to clean contaminated drinking water wells in Mankulam, Kilinochchi township area, Murusamoddai, Kilinagar, Barathipuram, Mailawanapuram, Dharmapuram, Kandawali, Ponnagar, Pannankandi and Indupuram areas in the Kilinochchi districts. In the Mullaithivu district, troops of Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) completed purification of drinking water wells in Peraru, Wasanthipuram, Theravil, Oddusuddan, Nanthikadal and Mullaittivu areas.

The Sri Lanka Navy had rendered assistance to the Army in their effort by providing required water pumps and water purification (RO) plants.

Large areas in Kilinochchi and Mullaittivu districts were affected by floods caused by a bad weather spell over the island, recently. As a result, wells in these areas were inundated and people were denied access to safe drinking water for their daily requirements. As soon as the floods began to rise troops sprang into action and Rescue and Relief operations were put into action. In addition to evacuating flood victims to safe locations troops also provided them with food, water and other essential requirements.

Meanwhile, a mobile medical clinic was held for the flood affected people in Kilinochchi on Saturday (05). The clinic was held at the Kalwattithedal Nageshwara School in Puliyanpokkanei.
