Philanthropists donate dry ration parcels to distribute among the needy
March 26, 2020Supporting the government’s effort in assisting low income families affected, during curfew to control the spreading of coronavirus, a group of philanthropists handed over 85 dry ration parcels to be distributed among needy (daily wage earners) in the Colombo district.
The donation was officially received by Defence Secretary Maj. Gen. (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne at the Ministry premises today (March 26).
The donation was made possible through the contribution of many individuals representing all ethnic communities in Colombo.
“All of us felt that in the crisis situation we need to come forward and assist the government’s efforts in eradicating the virus pandemic. With the imposed curfew restricting movement in the Colombo district, we understood as civil societies we also have a responsibility in extending our assistance for families, which solely depend on daily wages”, they said.
The group had already distributed over 625 parcels with dry rations, each worth of Rs. 2,500 among the needy families in Colombo.
